Dutch Oven Chili

This Dutch Oven Chili recipe is a hearty and comforting dish, loaded with healthy and satisfying vegetables, flavorful ground turkey (or beef), broth, and a rich seasoning mix.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 tbsp. oil
  • 1 medium red onion chopped
  • 1 medium red bell pepper chopped
  • 1 medium green bell pepper chopped
  • 1 medium jalapeno pepper minced
  • 2 lb. ground turkey or beef
  • 56 oz. fire roasted tomatoes I used two 28 oz. cans
  • 1 tbsp. chili powder
  • 2 tbsp. ground cumin
  • 3 tbsp. garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp. onion powder
  • 45 oz. canned beans see recommendations above - 3 cans
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 6 oz. can tomato paste Optional if you want thicker consistency

Method
 

  1. Chop all your veggies and garlic and sauté them in oil.
  2. Sautéing vegetables in a cast iron dutch oven.
  3. Add the meat and stir until it's browned.
  4. Adding ground meat to the dutch oven for this Dutch Oven Chili Recipe.
  5. Stir in the canned tomatoes.
  6. Stirring in the fire roasted, canned tomatoes for this Dutch Oven Chili Recipe.
  7. Add the beans.
  8. Adding canned pinto beans to the dutch oven for this Dutch Oven Chili Recipe
  9. Then add the spices.
  10. Adding all the spices to this Dutch Oven Chili Recipe
  11. Lastly add the optional broth and/or tomato paste to achieve the texture you prefer from your finished chili. Total cooking time is approximately 30 minutes. but cook until done to your liking. It should be a minimum of 165 F. when done. 185 F. is better.
